Monthly Fishery Report No. 8 Update on Catches Reported to CCAMLR in 2010/11

TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION

The attached report summarises fishing activities in 2010/11 as reported in 5-day, 10-day and monthly catch and effort data submitted to the Secretariat to date. These data are circulated in accordance with conservation measures in force.

Catch and effort by reporting period for each fishery are emailed regularly to Contracting Parties participating in these fisheries.

As the Secretariat commences its preparations for CCAMLR-XXXI and associated meetings I take this opportunity to remind delegations of the following guidelines for the preparation of meeting documents. Adhering to these guidelines will assist the Secretariat to provide efficient support to our 2012 meetings.

All papers considered by the Commission and the Scientific Committee to support the taking of decisions are denominated ‘Working Papers’. Papers which provide background information only are ‘Background Papers’.

Members are invited to participate in the 2012 meeting of the Working Group on Fish Stock Assessment (WG-FSA) to be held from 8 to 19 October 2012 at the Commission Headquarters, 181 Macquarie Street, Hobart, Australia. The meeting will be convened by Dr Mark Belchier (UK), and a Provisional Agenda and Annotated Agenda for this meeting is available on the CCAMLR website for authenticated users.

Members are advised that 10 Members have submitted notifications for exploratory fisheries in 2011/12 (Conservation Measure 21-02).

These notifications are for exploratory longline fisheries for Dissostichus spp. in Subareas 48.6, 88.1 and 88.2 and Divisions 58.4.1, 58.4.2, 58.4.3a and 58.4.3b (summary attached). No notifications were received for new fisheries in 2011/12 (Conservation Measure 21-01).

With regard to information provided in COMM CIRC 11/75, a Member has inquired why, on the basis of information circulated in COMM CIRC 11/32, the Korean-flagged vessel In Sung No. 7 was not included in the Draft CP-IUU Vessel List circulated under COMM CIRC 11/75.
