Members are advised that the following Member contributions have been received up to 31 May 2012, the deadline for extensions requested at CCAMLR-XXX.

The attached report summarises fishing activities in 2011/12 as reported in 5-day, 10-day and monthly catch and effort data submitted to the Secretariat to date.  These data are circulated in accordance with conservation measures in force.



Catch and effort by reporting period for each fishery are emailed regularly to Contracting Parties participating in these fisheries.

I am delighted to advise Members of two initiatives relating to the scientific capacity building in CCAMLR.



CCAMLR Scientific Scholarship

In accordance with the Commission’s discussions at CCAMLR-XXX (CCAMLR-XXX, paragraphs 17.1 to 17.4), the following will be invited to observe at CCAMLR-XXXI under the Commission’s Rules of Procedure:

In keeping with past practice, Members are informed that unless an objection is received by 30 June 2012, the CCAMLR Executive Secretary will invite Dr Manfred Reinke (Antarctic Treaty Secretariat Executive Secretary) to attend CCAMLR-XXXI as an official visitor to the CCAMLR Secretariat. In the invitation, the CCAMLR Executive Secretary would invite Dr Reinke to attend any meetings he finds of interest during the CCAMLR-XXXI meetings that start on 23 October and finish on 1 November 2012.

I would like to inform you that the European Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Ms Maria Damanaki, is hosting a conference on RFMOs in Brussels on 1 June 2012.



This full day event will explore ways of addressing some of the biggest challenges facing Regional Fisheries Management Organisations (RFMOs) in the 21st Century.



The Conference will give the opportunity to those who know RFMOs best, the Chairs and Executive Secretaries, to come together to exchange their experience and ideas in an open discussion.

The United States has requested the attached information be circulated to all Members of the Commission.

In accordance with Conservation Measure 24-01, Members are advised that Russia has submitted a notification for multi-year research to assess the stock status of Dissostichus spp. in Subarea 48.5, starting in 2012/13. The research is expected to catch up to 60 tonnes of Dissostichus spp. in 2012/13. The notification falls under paragraph 3 of Conservation Measure 24-01, and was submitted on 10 May 2012.



Russia has requested that this notification be submitted to WG-SAM for consideration.
