The attached report summarises fishing activities in 2010/11 as reported in 5-day, 10-day and monthly catch and effort data submitted to the Secretariat to date. These data are circulated in accordance with conservation measures in force.

Catch and effort by reporting period for each fishery are emailed regularly to Contracting Parties participating in these fisheries.

Members’ attention is drawn to the attached communication received from Ukraine relating to a late notification for the krill fishery for the 2011/12 season. As requested by Ukraine, this notification has also been lodged as a SC-CAMLR-XXX background paper.

In accordance with Conservation Measure 10-07, paragraph 12, the Secretariat is circulating the Provisional NCP-IUU Vessel List for 2011 (attached) which contains only one vessel, the Koosha 4. No new vessels are included on the Provisional CP-IUU Vessel List this year. Information regarding the Iranian flagged Koosha 4 is available in COMM CIRC 11/26.

The City of Hobart will be holding a reception to mark the commencement of the 2011 Antarctic Expedition Season on Friday, 21 October 2011. An invitation is extended to all CCAMLR delegates, including participants in the meeting of the Working Group on Fish Stock Assessment and associated meetings, who may already be in Hobart for CCAMLR’s annual meetings.

On behalf of the Chair of the Commission, Mr Terje Løbach, I write to advise Members that the Secretariat has been notified of the unexpected passing of Mr Alexandre de Lichtervelde on 17 September 2011.

Mr de Lichtervelde was a respected and committed member of the Belgian Delegation to the Antarctic Treaty, the CEP and to CCAMLR for many years. He has represented Belgium at CCAMLR meetings since 2005.

New Zealand has submitted an updated notification for research surveys to monitor the abundance of pre-recruit Dissostichus mawsoni in the southern Ross Sea (Subarea 88.1, SSRUs J, K and L) between 2012 and 2014 (refer to COMM CIRC 11/99–SC CIRC 11/48). Details of the proposed second survey in 2012/13 are attached.
