TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION AND THE SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE

On behalf of the Chair of the Commission, Mr Terje Løbach, I write to advise Members that the Secretariat has been notified of the unexpected passing of Mr Alexandre de Lichtervelde on 17 September 2011.

Mr de Lichtervelde was a respected and committed member of the Belgian Delegation to the Antarctic Treaty, the CEP and to CCAMLR for many years. He has represented Belgium at CCAMLR meetings since 2005.

A communication has been sent to the Belgium Government relaying the Chair’s condolences on behalf of Members and the Secretariat. We have asked that these condolences be passed on to Alexandre’s family, his colleagues and friends, and to advise that his contribution to the work of CCAMLR was highly regarded and that he will be sadly missed.
